I ride a horse almost 16H and I'm 5'0" - wasn't my choice, but he's gorgeous, a sweetheart and I've been able to finish my first rides without getting killed and that counts, too! I'm starting another tall colt next year which I definitely wouldn't do if I didn't think he was a sane horse. I have a friend that's even shorter than me, and when she went looking for a horse of her own after riding one that was +15H, she said a small horse felt wierd to her. I have a bum knee too as well as being vertically challenged. You just get used to strategic mounting and dismounting. I hope I never compete in a flat desert with nothing to mount off of! Try having her hold onto the mane and bouncing on her right foot a couple of times before she swings up. If she is 5"2' - why does she need a 15hh horse? >> Oh, we didn't set out to get a horse of any height. This horse is a possible trade for another horse and my mom rode him since she was thinking about getting a smaller horse. He'll be a good horse for her for other reasons. I think there is no reason she can't get to the point where she can mount him, she is not a weak person. We just need to train the right muscles I think.
