funny story

Funny story, a few years ago on another equine list, I was complaining that
I had loaned a very fine broodmare to my sister-in-law, who then bred her to
a stallion that I thought was extremely poor quality---the smartass phrase I
used at the time was "cheap and cheesey". Of course, my only objection to
him was his total lack of quality, but ohmigawd, the piles of people that
immediately jumped to the conclusion that I objected only because his stud
fee was "cheap"! Lord, I was getting flamed right and left from stallion
owners who felt it their holy duty to tell me what five-legged wonders they
owned and were offering to breed at (of course) far less than his noble goo
was worth, and how narrow-sighted and snobby I was and how undoubtedly my
sister-in-law was a much better judge of horseflesh, and was a nicer person
than I was, etc, etc etc. All this time, I was posting back, saying I
couldn't care less about fees, I care about chronic lameness, tiny feet and
weak loins, but it was like a whisper in the wind. Now I was just
"backpeddling and too spineless to stand up like a grown-up"! Good grief!
I finally gave up and just unsubscribed (it was a lousy list, anyway).

Moral of the story is we shouldn't kill the messenger for bringing up in
conversation things they observe and so maybe we can cut Tamara some slack
for reporting something in good faith that she herself had nothing to do
with. She's a good, responsible, caring person and it would be a real shame
to lose her, eh?

Best,
Susan G
