Re: freeze marking



Here in the Uk the main freeze brand company , farmkey, say that to brand a
grey horse the brand has to be held on for longer. I belive this is because
grey hair is pigmentless so the brand will not show up unless the hair
follicile is killed of ( the freeze mark works on dark horses by kiling the
cells responsible for producing pigment).

My horse is branded under his saddle patch for under saddle showing, however
I wish I had him done on the shoulder as although it doesnt look pretty it
cannot be concelled by a saddle in a sale ring. Also the marked are seems
more susceptable to bruising in some horses which can cause a problem with
saddles.

Personally I think its a great idea as it means a non horsey person can
identify your horse with ease if its stolen.
