I am not the expert here, but I would like some of the experts to respond 
to my thinking that somewhere around 38 miles or so out on the trail (at 
least in my experience), different metabolic stuff begins to happen to the 
horse.  I do believe that LD is fundamentally different from rides that are 
longer than say 40 - 45 miles.  I also believe that new metabolic issues 
occur on 100 mile distances - probably in te 70 to 80 mile range.  Experts, 
please respond!  LIf
