Just a thought, but how would this whole argument change if the child had
fallen from the horse and died?  Would the risks still be acceptable if tack
failed, the horse spooked, or some other stupid thing had happened??  Would
the story of a 3 year old falling off a horse and dying at a sanctioned AERC
ride have changed any opinions?

I'm not trying to fortify the argument on either side, but Sandy's mail made
me think about it from this angle...
