In his younger years (when he was only 15) my 41 yr. old shetland pony
who is 41" tall used to pack my 8 yr. old son all day long in the
mountains.  Never had to worry about him being left behind.  Probably
depends on the pony, but I'd say don't underestimate the little guys.
