RE: sweet potato ok for horses?

Carrots get very woody and expensive in Egypt during the summer and sweet
potatoes are the treat of choice along with watermelon. I have a friend
whose stallion loves bananas and my horses think that cucumbers are a real
treat. Then, of course, it's currently date season and the fresh crunchy
dates are the absolute end for all the horses, plus having an amazing amount
of minerals. But we are a backward country here <G> so I can buy the produce
straight off the farms around the stable and know that there is no wax or
other cosmetic stuff and very little pesticide (lots of little brown bug
marks).

Subject: RC: sweet potato ok for horses?

Does anyone know of a site (or can one of the
nutrition experts or vets comment) about what fruits
and vegetables are ok for horses? For example - are
uncooked sweet potatos, melons ok? I have fed
watermelon to the horses for years as they love it but
am now curious about other fruits and vegetables. This
would be as a treat, not as a major component of the
diet.
