Brewers grain is what's left over after the process of fermenting grain to
produce alcohol has stopped. By itself, brewers grain has only a moderate
(about 6%) amount of fat, the manufacturer is probably using it as a
carrier/filler of some sort for another higher fat source. Any non-rancid
fat source will work just as well (ie, provide calories), but usually, just
adding some fresh, good-quality vegetable oil will give you the same results
for a lot less. The only advantage to Weight Builder (or products like it)
is usually just convenience, and some times better palatability if the horse
just won't accept liquid oil. In that case, getting a bag of FatPak is just
as palatable and still less expensive than the fat products in itty-bitty
buckets.
