Re: EMT's ambulances on rides

Oh, so by this logic... we should shut up about veterinary concerns.
Otherwise, PETA will make us have RIDE VETS! Come on. This is getting out
of hand.

And, BTW...my horse and I went down two days ago on a training ride.
Fortunately, we're both fine. We *had* just come around a corner and I had
slowed him way down to make the corner, which we did. But *AFTER* we got
back on the straight-away (and we were still going slow), he just flat out
tripped... stepped on himself. We both went down in a big heap. Had there
been a cliff, we would have been in big danger of heading right off. Don't
tell me that this doesn't fall in the "no fault" category.

It seems to me that on any ride, it is completely and totally appropriate to
anticipate that such things might happen and at least have a plan in place
to deal with the situation (like phone numbers of people to call). Even if
this was the rider's fault (which I don't believe it is), does that mean
that we just say "tough shit...one more horse gone... maybe he'll show up in
a week?" Do we say, "Oh, rider over-rode their horse... forget any vet
treatment for this guy. We only provide help for those horses who have
smart riders."

Give me a break. I don't think people have thought this through.
