Re: Alternative Endurance Horses

The Young Horseman's Project of the Nez Perce has recently published a web site that can view at:

http://www.nezpercehorseregistry.com/main.html

The Akhal-Teke Association of America will be hold their annual conference on October 6 - 8, in Hood River, OR. The Nez Perce plan on demonstrating their breeding results at that conference. Dr. Mike Foss will be a featured speaker as well, with a presentation on International Endurance. For more conference information, visit the ATAA web site at:

Also, there is an Akhal-Teke breeder from Colorado who is signed up for next years Great American Horse Race from St. Louis to Sacramento. She plans on using two of her Akhal-Teke stallions in this race.

I tried last year to contact the Nez Pierce tribe and did finally get a hold
of the gal who helped them with the breeding of the horses. She said that
they are almost completely done with that project as there wasn't much
response to the horses. Shame, sounded like a great cross. They had only a
few of the remaining horses left, at that time nothing suitable in my
opinion for endurance. Overall I didn't have much luck getting in contact
with the tribe directly, the e-mails and phone calls were never returns so
not sure what is going on there. Perhaps others had better luck.
