RE: Strasser /natural hoof trims

I have been following this on-line as well. I would be very cautious as this
protocol was developed for foundered horses and some of what I would call
"relatively extreme" people have taken this on a crusade.

First off if you intend to continue in endurance you will run into great
trouble if you trim the fronts to 45 degrees and scoop out the sole. Next I
do not believe you would ever complete a ride barefooted with the trim
Strasser recommends. Finally there is no one in the US authorized to do this
work by Strasser.

Please investigate the entire process and philosophy completely prior to
being drawn into it.

Subject: RC: Strasser /natural hoof trims

I have been looking over some info on natural hoof trims and the feet are
shown trimmed symetrically (medially/laterally ?). If I have a horse that
toes out a little in front he will not land flat if he is trimmed in this
manner. He would need the outside trimmed down farther to land flat. This is
the info I got from Dr. Waldron who videotaped the horse on a treadmill.
How
do toed out wild horses wear their feet? I would think more would wear on
the
outside, and the breakover would not be in the center. Any opinions?
Everything else I have read so far on the natural hoof trims makes sense to
me.
