I believe you might be mistaken on that one...Johnny Crandell won the Old 
Dominion and top-tenned the Tevis on his Half Moyle, "Hybrid Vigor" in '97 . 
You may have meant won the OD & Tevis in the same year....

I was a volunteer last fall at the Fort Valley multi-day rides, working as a
vet recorder.  On Sunday we got a bit backed up at one point, and a man
chatting with the P&R people volunteered to help out.  I asked him what
initials I should record on the rider cards, but his answer didn't make the
lightbulb go on.  After I heard him talking with one of the riders, though,
I asked, "Are you Matthew?"

I knew him as the medical editor of Equus magazine and as the only person to
complete OD (the hundred) and Tevis the same year on the same horse.  After
talking with him a bit I learned that he is also welcoming, sweet and very
droll.  Would love to spend time with him again.
