Re: RC: Trail Symposium speakers need our help. Please read. (Long)

Clemson Symposium. I can't >remember>who started it,

Well Sally, that was me, and I will point out that I am notoriously CHEAP
and not quick to give money just because somebody asks. I WILL give
money to this though! Brian and Candice are the *best*. Brian has a
great sense of humor and is a good speaker, and not too bad looking>eg<.
When we had our "Foot, Wheel and Hoof" Triathlon he was one of the few
who did all three. (yes, he mountain bikes too!) He's a wonderful "go
between" between user groups. Candice does a great job too. A few years
ago Brian was working in an elevator shaft and some scaffolding fell
about 4 stories onto the top of his head damaging his spine forcing him
to wear a "halo" (which he managed to manage a ride while wearing)
Around the same time Candice was injured. Though neither of them were
able to ride for quite awhile, they *increased* their activity by
becoming even more active as trail activists.

Their War Eagle ride was just *the best* event of the year, with music,
great food and awards, etc. Though it was a vig event, every year they
managed to put practically every penny they brought in back into things
to make it better for the riders, not keeping back anything for
themselves though there was the potential for profit and they were
running it out of their own pockets. Then...one year the weather went
crazy, lots of people didn't show up, and they lost a lot of money that
they couldn't afford to lose, all because they'd been so determined not
to profit off their friends. I think this is a GREAT time for all of us,
especially in the Southeast to pay them back.

For those of you who are in another region and have a good horse going,
and your health's holding out, and you just don't have the time you wish
you had to contribute to trails advocacy... come on folks, pay your
proxy. They're willing to do your dirty work for you so let's show our
appreciation.
