re: Breeds

Well, I personally found myself on my back on the ground because someone came up
very fast on his racking horse behind my otherwise calm but green Arab. I think that it
is the sound that the horse makes single-footing that is the problem. It sounds like
several horses running up behind.
After three years of doing 50's and close to 1000 miles completed, I get comments
about how steady my horse is. Yet, he STILL has a problem with having a gaited horse come up behind us...
Even worse, another time, my son was riding my other horse - a horse I would trust beyond any
other - at a local Arab club fun day. A woman was demonstrating how great her
horse was at a rack to anyone who would watch. She rode rapidly up towards where my
son was slowly riding the gelding. It spooked the horse so badly that he threw my
son off and we had a broken arm to handle. I watched that happen and knew that there
would be a problem but was just far enough away to be unable to prevent it.
TWH's and other gaited horses have lots of virtues and are great for being easy on their
riders. They are NOT easy for everyone else around them.
That's my opinion!
