OK, Heidi
You see Mel riding around there and you have a houseguest!!!! 
I managed to spend a few hours with Patrick on the floor of his tackroom
(wait a minute, that didn't come out quite right---I was sitting on the
floor) and he was wonderful! A big supporter of endurance as he said he
LOVED the ride at Quatar. In case anyone else wondered why he had no
saddle when they took his pic at the finish line, his horse was pulled,
but he wanted to just slowly walk him to the finish line so that he
could complete the ride. They said no and took his saddle off--- he
jumped on bareback and very slowly walked his horse across the line.
He was supposed to ride this champion horse and he could tell the owner
really wanted to ride him herself; he backed off and took a horse who
had difficulty crossing even the tiniest of trickels. He is quite a
great guy and if someone approached him and he had the time, I'm sure he
would love to help promote the sport.
