Happy to say here is a "Use to be Junior," ... however, I do agree w/you. I
think the only "Use to be Juniors" from my day that are still riding are
myself and Daniel Kanavy (I cant think of her married name at the moment).

I may not have Billions of miles... I did take a 8 yr. leave (riding leave,
still crewed), to be a mother ... wish I could say my son is now into
endurance he much rather enjoys our back home woods to ride..... but it just
doesn't seem to be he cup of tea. Reckon that leaves me more money to ride
and a CREW (well crew in a few years..... :0)

Happy Trails All.

I complained a lot lol)

Just a quick comment on who I see as the future riders of AERC
endurance rides. I often read that our Junior riders are the
future of the sport. I disagree with that analysis. I'll bet
that if the research was done the result would concur that most
Junior endurance riders do not continue as adult endurance riders. Yes,
there are exceptions, but as a rule I believe
they don't. Perhaps the statistics will prove me wrong. My own
personal feeling is that female riders between the age of 30 and 45 are the
best candidates for AERC membership. While there are
more men participating in our sport today and some of us who started in our
early 30's 15 years ago are now past 45, when I look around me at endurance
ridecamps I see many riders who fall
into this female, 30 to 45 age catagory. Will they stay in the
sport? I don't know. If AERC really wants to expand membership
perhaps an analysis of the age and gender of existing members
would be interesting and appropriate. Lest anyone think that
I feel that Junior riders aren't important let me correct you
now. I think that they are important, however I don't think
they are the future of our sport.

Happy Trails,
Marci Cunningham
