A true Dr. Bristol has a flat center plate that digs into the tongue. A
french snaffle has a contoured (looks like a peanut)center plate. The
french snaffle is the better of the two, but many catalogues lable the
french links as Dr. Bristol by mistake. The only problem I can see with a
long shanked hackamore or curb is that it could get caught on things and
make it more difficult for a horse to drink from somthing shallow.
