Shock Tamers & Silacone???

Nancy Okun luvhrsnrnd@hotmail.com
Hi, I have always used regular pads on the front with silacone.
I recently bought Shock tamer pads and finally talked my
farrier into using them. The material that came with the pads
said to use oakum, not silacone. So we did. Well, my mare is
so foot sore on one foot I can't ride her for 2 weeks. She got
a ton of stuff (mud and dirt) under the pads and became sole
brused. My vet came and we blocked her to make sure the lameness
wasn't coming from somewhere else and it is not. She's on stall
rest for a few days and on bute for 10 - then we'll see how she
feels. My question is......Has anyone had problems using these
pads? Do you use silacone or oakum? I've used regular black pads
for years without a single problem like this. She now has her
pads back on with silacone to prevent this from happening again.
Is it usual for a sole bruse to take this long to heal?

Many thanks, Nancy
