Re: RC: leg wraps

Wrapping a horses legs can prevent fluid build up in the tissues. I am not
a technical person, perhaps one of the vets will explain better, but if a
horse stands after exercise, fluids build up and restrict blood flow, thus
preventing healing to the various stresses incurred.

However, if legs are not wrapped properly, you can cause more harm than
good. Too lose and they are dangerous when they slip down, too tight and
they can cut off circulation altogether. To get a GREAT education on how
to and not to wrap legs, go work at a racetrack for a few years...you will
see it all...

A simple thing to remember, NEVER wrap without "cottons" for padding. Get
a few lessons from someone who really knows how to do it and PRACTICE!!!!

Best thing to do, IMO, is to turn the horse lose in an area where he will
move around. If he is too tired to move around, walk him FREQUENTLY.
