We use shoes with borium dots (four dots on each foot). With
the previous farrier, Meshack would lose shoes if we rode very 
aggressively (cantered) on hard roads.  
 
We decided that he would get too much grip with the borium and
the slightest twist would pull the shoe.

The borium "dots" GRIP and hold back the front feet, allowing the hind feet to grab them and pull them off.  A THIN ridge along the INSIDE of the nail holes will prevent drastic slippage and yet allow the foot to slide forward naturally.  I have used this method for more than 15 years and I have NO worries about slippage and NO leg problems....
