My friend's gelding just seems to like a bit better - he's a very itchy 
headed guy, and the hack on his nose was not to his approval. My gelding 
hates bits, partly because he can be a runaway in a crowd, and I end up 
pulling so hard I hurt him - he just locks his jaw against me. The long 
shanked mechanical hacks, which look so severe, control him without all the 
pulling and pain, he tucks his head in and down in response to pressure. The 
S hack put a bad dent in his nose even with a nose fuzzy, so I had to wrap it 
in vetwrap. He did not respond very well to it, the curb chain seems to sit 
too high for him when the nose is where it belongs.
