RE: Re: I tried a slant trailer and I didn't like it. :-)

I have an open stock type bumper pull slant load, no ramp, no rear tack and
I think it's perfect. Don't have any problems loading except my mare who
learned NOT to load in a Brenderup walk-thru. Then it's the Tteam chain
over the nose method to load her! My gelding learn to load with a just a
couple of light taps on the butt with a dressage whip. No problem, he just
walks right in now. But buy whatever turns your crank trailer wise!

Hi Louisa,
I will tell you only that from your description of how you load your
horses,
it sounds as though you would do well to go back to basics and teach
your
horse to load. Into whatever you ask him to load into. The familiar is
always more secure feeling, but once you take the time to train your
horse
to load (properly) without treats or distracting him so that you can
secure
the tail bar or close the door, you and your horse will be much better
off.
It will probably take you less than a day, maybe less than a couple of
hours
and it really isn't that difficult. There are any number of methods to
use,
John Lyons, Pat Parelli, Tom Dorrance, Buck Brannamin.....ad infinitum.
If
you don't feel up to the task, hire a good trainer to work with you. It
shouldn't cost more than the price of a good riding lesson. The
operative
word here is *train*. As Pat Parelli says, "Take the time so that you
don't
have to take the time".
Pat Super
PS I LOVE my slant load
