Hear rate monitor's shouldn't substitute for other kinds of awareness.  As one person (Barbara McC?) wrote - when a normally good eating horse stops eating, that's a clue to a potential problem.  When a normally good attitude horse doesn't have it, that's a clue.  When there's stiffness, or a lameness, or a crash, these things are all clues, and these things don't *necessarily* have a concurrent indication on the heart monitor.  So the moral of this little bit is - don't ride the heart monitor, ride your  horse. 

(Sun's shining now - I'm starting to feel less grumpy.  Think I'll go outside & enjoy the rays.  Maybe get full of horse hair).  Lif
