Todd's a really fine vet - when I wrote my Liberty Run story about
completing a 25 on a 26-year old QH, Todd vetted him through at one point,
and seemed really happy to see such a fit old horse getting straight A's.
As luck would have it, when I went to buy Laser, Todd came out on a cold
Christmas Eve morning, in the rain, to do the per-purchase inspection. It
doesn't surprise me at all that he'd go to these lengths to help save your
horse.

One more thing - I've seen a few follow-ups to all this coming down on you
pretty hard - it is mostly only good fortune that they aren't where you
were, and they ought not judge you. Hindsight is always 20-20. You
learned a really hard lesson, and my heart goes out to you. If you'd had
any idea your horse was in that kind of shape, I know you'd have stopped -
and he did pass the previous vet check.

Keep riding, and keep writing - I always love your stories because of the
way you write. And take it easy on yourself.
