Saved from Slaughter

My Apache Dell was an 8-year-old registered Appaloosa in perfect health. I
bid for him at auction, against a meat buyer, and won him for $675
(Canadian, of course, and in 1988 there was no GST, either :) ). I had no
plans to buy that day, but when I set eyes on him I had to have him. I had
to borrow money to buy him (bless my sister!).

You've all been subjected to my maudlin carryings on about Apache, so
suffice to say it was a purchase I never regretted.
