Regarding the course, and the possiblity of getting a CoC (Certificate of Capability - 12km/hr minimum speed) - I'm predicting the winning times for this ride to be around 11 hours, (maybe less if John Crandell and Heraldic come!).

There are serious climbs in the first 55 miles - from 3000 ft at basecamp up to 6500ft at highest point, but it's mostly decent 2-track with rock/gravel in places, but not a lot of really wretched footing. No sand. A good hill horse with pads could move out over most of the course. When we ran this trail as part of a multiday ride, winning times were around 6 hours.

The last 45 miles will be desert - flat and rolling - not very rocky, but sandy in stretches.

It's 2 rides in 1!

Ride the Owyhee Mountain trails leaving camp at first light and climbing to 6500 feet elevation for a scenic view of the Idaho, Nevada and Oregon high country.... After refreshments at camp, continue the challenge on the Owyhee desert trail, in the cool of the night, by the light of the full moon.
