Re: RideCamp: Pregnant mare: Put up or Put out?

Wow Kati,
I'm not a vet, and I'm only a lowly PhD, and I've only been raising Arabs
for 15 years, but I have NEVER stall-bound my mares. In fact, I ride my
mares constantly, they all have endurance careers, and are only retired
from HEAVY exercise, when their body-forms dictate. When my mares begin to
bag up seriously, I begin to confine them to their stalls at night, but I
think they REQUIRE exercise during the day and are smart enough to know HOW
MUCH they need. If your mare has been active before her pregnancy, my
opinion is that you will drive her nuts with months of being stall bound1
