Re: RideCamp: Fwd: RideCamp: More Dog fights

My horses are quite used to my own sometimes annoying dog, perhaps too much, &
will kick if they get too close or annoying, as our dog is agile enough to
dodge them (except once & she didn't learn her lesson).
On a trail ride at home with some folks one of their barn dogs followed us &
my horse kicked one of the dogs that got right under his feet. I felt
terrible. It happened so fast & I didn't even know the dog was right behind
his hind feet. Fortunately the dog was ok.
It's difficult enough at pit stops to keep an eye out for other riders who
walk their horses behind, in front of, next to my horse despite the long
yellow ribbon in his tail or his dam with the red ribbon in her tail.
Personally, I would really appreciate not having dogs running around the
horses so I don't have to feel guilty if my horse kicks them!
Our excellent pit crew brings her dog to rides & keeps the dog in a kennel
when she's busy helping us. Perhaps folks with dogs could have a dog kennel
in the car, or even at their crewing site & put the dog in there when they are
busy, & then let the dog out on a leash when they are idle waiting for their
rider to come in????
