With all due respect, there is no way that a thoracic vertebrae could be
pulled out of alignment or replaced by such a maneuver. Spend some time in
the necropsy room and see how the horse is constructed in that area.
I'm not denying that there may have been discomfort caused  by the farrier
which was relieved by the maneuver described, only that the discomfort was
caused by misalignmet of a thoracic vertebra.
