I am having problems posting to ridecamp since I resubscribed and so will post this via the guest form. I have an arab gelding that I've owned for 11 years. He will be 19 this summer. I've used him for CTR's and he has just under 1000 miles. The past two years he has become very testy while being girthed up. At times violently pulling back while tied to the trailer. I've tried different saddles, different girths, griths with and without elastic, tried easing it up slowly, and on and on. But, so far have not hit upon the problem. He doesn't appear to be sore either on his back or girth area and once tacked up is happy as a clam and goes down the trail. He seems to be upset just while the girth is actually being tightened. After his momentary panic attack he will walk a few short stuttery steps and then relaxes and moves out normally. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be missing? or should I have someone stand behind him with a 2 X 4- just kidding!!!
