RE: Re: jointsaver

Well, since I have been dragged into this by name, I will give you my 2c on
the subject.

Adequan is NOT a NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug).
Yucca contains a Salicylate that IS a NSAID.

Adequan cannot make a sound horse perform any faster or any longer.
NSAID's, including Yucca, may be able to make a sound horse go faster or work
longer.

Adequan cannot cover up a serious injury.
NSAID's can cover up some serious injuries.

Adequan is allowable between events but not to be given within 72 hours before
(CA law) or during any event.
NSAID's are not allowed to be found in any detectable amount in a performing
horse.

There is a VERY big difference between these two pharmaceuticals. The goal of
the rules is to provide the greatest level of safety for the horse and
fairness of the competition. NSAID's compromise the safety of the horse. On
that basis alone they can be banned. The debate at this time is whether
Adequan has the ability to alter the outcome of any race and is this
probability significant enough to ban a product that has so great a benefit to
the health of the horses?

I look forward to reading your thoughts on Ridecamp. Please understand that
while most of the Board does not say much here, we all are listening quite
closely to what all of you are saying.

Sincerely,
     Mike

Contact Dr. Robert Beecher, the head of the AERC Vet Committee and ask him to
bring it up at his committee meeting. Or cantact Maggy Price, head of the
Rules Committee and ask her to bring it up at HER committee meeting. As I
read your attached file, I would have placed Adequan in the NSAID category.
It IS an anti-inflammatory drug, isn't it? Or WHAT is it? Mike Tomlinson,
where are you when we need you?
