A 'stupid' question

I board my QH at a small, family owned and operated farm in north-central
Maryland. The other horses there are mostly grade, and the owners
particularly like TWH's.

Today we were discussing a friend's young daughter who is looking for a
horse for local hunter/jumper competition. The subject of arabs came up,
and all agreed that no one riding an arab will ever win in h/j competition
around here because of local prejudice. They insisted that one reason for
this prejudice is that arabs are gaited! Not like TWH's, but still gaited.

Please enlighten me. What are they talking about?
