Me too,
The carbs I mean because despite the verbal minefield a lot of it makes
sense.
One thing I'm curious about. You say you wonder if we've jumped on the fat
band-wagon too fast, like its something new.
Nearly 10 years ago Courtney Hart gave a seminar in France (with Becky doing
the Orthoflex saddle bit) & he was promoting high fat in the form of corn
oil at this stage.
Practically every book published on endurance talks about fat
supplementation, plus the stuff that comes out of Kentucky Equine Research,
amongst others, the straight equine nutrition stuff. So is ten years not
long enough to know if fat is good or bad for endurance horses?
Its always difficult to judge the effects of added fat if you're an ordinary
owner/rider. To test it properly you obviously need several horses all
doing the same work, etc, etc.
There've been occasions in the past for me when I've felt that adding fat
has helped a horse who perhaps wasn't quite fit enough for a particular race
(I know, I know, but it happens to us all, doesn't it??).
I've recently started using Equine Energy (marked in France by the English
feed people Baileys) & to date can only talk about one horse, one ride. The
ride was a 200kms ride Spain, quite a tough ride. OK the horse was fit &
ready but his CRI's were better on the 2nd day & he went round the 3rd leg
(the most difficult) like a F1 racing car, he just wanted to gallop
everywhere. Presented within 5mins on arrival 54HR which I thought was
quite good. Can't say the EE did all of this but I'm sure it helped.
My 2 cents worth on high fat diets.
My original question still stands - haven't high fat diets been around long
enough for us to know if its good or bad?
