carbos, etc.

I am new to endurance riding although not new at all to horses or endurance
sports. I have done many marathons and triathlons including 3 Ironman
distance races (Hawaii too), and I can tell you that all the carbo loading
in the world does absolutely no good if you are not well trained, well
hydrated and well RESTED. I'm certain the same applies to our horses.I
learned the hard way that rest is probably the most important part of a
training program and it seems to me that it is a sadly overlooked
component, particularly where our horses are concerned. Sounds to me as
though Heather was correct in her perception that the horse in question was
simply tired (did I say simple?); his "symptoms" sounded exactly the way I
felt when I overtrained myself! I won't go on and on with this subject, but
just thought I'd point out that there's no magic formula that substitutes
for common sense training, diet and adequate rest. Been there, done that,
no workie!

Peace,

Adrienne Bassett
