As the owner of a SE Ansata bred mature stallion, I can tell you that I agree
with some of the premise that SE horses for whatever reason are rarely proven
as athletes. When we started riding our stallion endurance, a lot of Se
'breeders' thought we were nuts and told us so. A perfectly good SE stallion
and a Nationals qualified boy at that, bred like a king (by a full bro to El
Haddiyah) but with the quite useful qualities of 8" bone and a 20RHR!! Why
waste that, we thought? Well, SE horses are too 'valuable' for that sort of
thing, we were told, and why should we risk a great pedigree on teh trail
where he could get hurt? Well, I worry more about him behind a strange mare
than on trail. In any case, he is an exceptional athlete who has overcome a
couple of real problems that could have ended his career and/or his life!
Straight Egyptian collector's item? I think not. He eats, poops, gallops and
recovers like the athlete we want to ride. But so many of these wonderful
horses ARE treated like hothouse plants so who is to know?? It isn't that SE
horses CAN'T do endurance - but that a HUGE majority of them are never tested
in any athletic venue. Just look at the Egyptian Event - nothing that
constitutes physical prowess is offered - but there is GOBS of halter
competition, and a few token pleasure classes. Sorry, but Western Pleasure
and English Pleasure are not athletic endeavors. In any case, if more owners
of SE horses would RIDE them competitvely, perhaps this idea that they CAN'T
do it would be dispelled. One owner of a nice SE mare even asked me not long
ago if I would ride her mare for a season to see if she could do it. I almost
agreed, until I found out that the mare was at 8 years old not even started
under saddle! What a great deal! I do all teh work and send her back trained
for nothing. Then she sits again - oh, she would be bred to Sal that year -
and stand again. WHEW!

No indeed - if you OWN SE horses, go ride them! They may be of rare
bloodlines, but if you don't ride them and prove that they DESERVE to have
their line propagated, what is the point?

Just logged on & read my mails find one of my questions answered. I don't
know much about American blood- lines but its the first time I've seen El
Shaklan promoted as "endurance" breeding, or Ansata for that matter,
however
I don't want to get Judith Forbis on my back, are there some Ansata horses
out there pounding down the trail. I've only ever seen them dolled up in
Arabian Horse World. However this isn't too say they won't do well. This
is just what makes breeding endurance horses such an uncertainty because
its
difficult to breed the mind-set which is so critical for a top endurance
horse.
I don't think anyone's trying to find fault with you but if I've learnt one

Hi Heather

Here in South Africa most of our top endurance horses over the last ten or
so years trace to an imported american stallion SAF FIRSTAAR, if your lo
oking for an endurance horse here anything with his blood in has a good
chance of being a first class endurance horse. SAF FIRSTAAR is a grandson
of ANSATA IBN HALIMA so here in South Africa is definately considered as
endurance "breedeing" along with MORAFIC who is also found in SAF
FIRSTAAR's pedigree. Another stallion AHIR (also imported) tracing to
MORAFIC is also a proven endurance bloodline here in South Africa.

Celeste (from South Africa)
Mawlud - pure crabbet (mmph these egyptians think they can do everything!)
Shadixx - arab/appaloosa (an SAF FIRSTAAR grandson with spots!)

PS. Just as a matter of interest most of the endurance stock containing
AHIR and SAF FIRSTAAR blood have crabbet breeding on the other end!
