You are not off base, just off year I think....Matthew has ridden the OD many
times cavalry, but I think you may be referring to John Crandell III....I think
it was the year he won on his tough Moyle/Arab cross and early in the ride gave
up his toilet paper to remark some vandalized trail.

I wonder what he did the rest of the day?
