Attack this problem by eliminating some of the probable variables. One of 
them is substrate availability. you can quickly deterrmine this via blood 
glucose measurements. 

Another is changes in body temperature. 

Another is changes in hydration and electrolyte condition. 

Get these three variables in hand and you should know what's going on with 
extended vet checks. My first choice is the substrate availability question. 
Despite all the FFAs and VFAs in the world, if the glucose drops you're going 
to have a horse that stops.
