Saddle Questions

OK, the great saddle search is on.  My current saddle is
leaving dry patches behind on the withers on both sides, and
they appear equal in size.  So here come the questions:

1)  will a different saddle pad correct this
2)  what causes this
3)  is the ortho-flex worth the money

The horse is high withered, short back and broad.  Any
comments and suggestions are welcome.
