Re: trucks

Gosh, Sonya really got things going with her truck question, didn't she!

I just had to add my $0.02 once more; this has gotten so interesting.

We use a '94 Dodge diesel for our heavy horse hauling. Someone mentioned
the Banks power upgrade. It adds a lot of power (total 650 ft-lbs torque)
and makes all the difference in the world when starting a heavy load. Be
warned: the power kit in combination with a lead foot *kills* all that
great fuel efficiency! With all the changes Cummins made in the 24-valve,
I'm not sure the newer ones can be turned up.

The other thing this truck has on it that is more than worth the money is
an exhaust brake that makes stopping a heavy load *much* easier and safer.
If any of y'all haul in the mountains a lot, look into one. It saves a lot
on the brakes and transmission. You have to be careful with it when you're
hauling several horses because the heavier the load, the harder it stops.
There's a trick to using it hauling live animals but it's still worth it.

It cost right around $2000 to install both the power upgrade and the
exhaust brake.
