Thanks to everyone who has tried to help!  I've decided I hate CompuServe.  
There is NO trash can and when the messages are gone, apparently they're just 
gone.  AND the program will not allow me to change to have my messages saved 
for even thirty days.  It will allow me to switch it to saving my messages 
for seven days, but the minute I exit out of the program, it apparently 
changes the settings right back to saving messages only three days.  AND 
CompuServe people will NOT talk to me or respond to my messages.  So, if 
you're shopping for a new service DON'T choose CompuServe.
