Both are a record of a particular location stored in the memory of the GPS.
Individual track points are not recallable but a series of them is available
as a track (line) on the screen. Waypoints can be recalled individually and
you can ask the GPS direction and distance to any given waypoint from your
current location. Track points are designed to keep a record of your path
and give you the ability to backtrack over that same path. Waypoints have
multitude of functions. Where is camp. Where is the trail junction. Where is
that hidden meadow off the trail. They can be entered ahead of time or they
can be entered from the location you want to make a waypoint. They can be
displayed on the screen along with the track. You can also ask the GPS to
display the location in longitude and latitude (or other reference) of
waypoints.
