<< good morning everyone!! My question is concerning shoes. I pan on
beginning to ride my 6 yr. old Arab mare in about one month- last month of
the pregnancy- finally!! Anyway, I plan in riding on the grass, and on the
dirt trails. Does she need shoes? they are soooo expensive!! Can I just
get easyboots and put them on when I ride on the streets(rarely)? >>
As long as her feet hold up, that is fine. There is a tremendous range of
difference in hoof quality between horses, so it's a judgment call that those
of us who can't see her really can't make. But yes, many horses do fine for
light riding without shoes. Just keep an eye on her feet so that you are
aware at what point your riding exceeds her ability to grow new foot to
accommodate the level of wear.
