We once had a horse come home from a ride with Strangles and 4 or 5 of our 
horses got it.  The 3 year old we had died from it.

I used to not get my horses innoculated because they would be lame and sore 
from the shot for weeks and I had no young horses.  Older horses are said to 
be immune.  I don't know if that is true or not.  However, with the new nasal 
spray, which my vet says is very effective, I now give strangles.  Maryben
