Well Susan,

There seems to be a different stick for Arabs than other breeds. I've
looked at a lot of 16 hand Arab which would have been 15 if they were a
TB. 

I know how high the tip of my nose is off the ground (16-2), the top of
my head (18 hands), the bottom of my chin (15-3), etc. So I can walk up
to a horse and within an inch pretty much tell you how big they are. 
That is a big advantage when you go look at a horse :=).
