Re: Re: LD, kids competing etc.

Hey Guys,
It was certainly not my intent to "bash" anyone. God knows I love this sport
and there is room for everyone in it. My attitudes about LD I think are well
founded. Just because I do not consider less than 50 miles an "endurance"
distance certainly does not mean that I disdain those who choose not to do
it. That is their decision and everyone should decide for him or herself how
many miles they want to take themselves and their horse. I have yet to do my
first 100. (Maybe this year if all goes well). I hold in awe those who can
manage to not only ride 100 miles but (can you believe) ENJOY it? So we all
have our goals. Let's just not confuse the issue here. Endurance is just
what the word implies. I hope to improve my and my horses staying power and
to learn to employ better training methods and strategy which, I understand
is what it takes to be a successful 100 miler. If I should decide to stay
with 50's, I will not think less of myself. I will ride the best 50's that I
can. (note that I did not say the fastest 50's). My 4 year old did two 25
milers this year and I did not feel that it was necessary for her to place
1st or 50th. Nor did I expect any special recognition for her
accomplishment. I was happy that she finished strong and sound and that she
seemed to be having fun. Which means we will try for 50 next year. But then,
that's my way of playing this fun game. Doesn't mean it's the only way.
Hope to see many of you on the trails.
Pat Super
