(Sigh) Maybe I'd better. 'Cause as much as a I love "arguing" with Howard,
I'd hate it if he got mad and left in a huff. His stories are priceless. As
far as starting young horses, I'm really starting to get the hang of it with
Star. It is so much fun to watch him develop into (I think) an awesome trail
horse. At our last NATRC ride, we had a sidepass up to something obstacle
that I was pretty sure he wouldn't do well and he actually ended up with an
"excellent" on his scorecard (I was sooooo proud :). Of course, the downed
tree with plastic stuff all over it which I was sure he WOULD do, he got a
refusal on (rats!). When he did go over that sucker though, he jumped so
high that my ears popped. Anybody have some good tips (other than lots of
patience :) on how to get a horse over/into something that they're really
afraid of? Right now, I just sort of wait it out (or let another horse go
first if that's an option). I always "win" (knock on wood), but I'm just
wondering if I'm missing something on the schooling side of things. Any tips
would be appreciated. Especially any tips re: mud bogs -- big scary things
that they are.

Sylvia & Star (I don't DO mud)
