Bad Bobo, bad dog!

Diane Nelson safehavn@fast.net
You always hear about bad dog incidents, always hoping it will never happen to you!

For over a year we have safely passed by the old farmhouse with the part Pit Bull, sized to rival a Great Dane, called "Bobo".

This particular evening my son was hand-walking his horse with me tailing them. The teenage son had two male visitors who chose to ramp up the car stereo to FULL VOLUME, accent on the BASS!

The horses (and I) were bug-eyed. We yelled for them to turn it down, which to their credit they did.

Then Bobo came romping out to visit, but instead of his usual circle the wagons and head back to the porch, Bobo opted to start nipping at Tank's heels. Tank took it for a few moments, then kicked out.

I asked the teenager to please come get Bobo as he was in danger of having his jaw smashed...or worse.

"Here Bobo, here Bobo."

Next the male visitors hop out, as well as the teenage daughter informing us in a loud voice that Bobo is used to horses. Meanwhile Bobo is circling Tank, coming closer, mostly aimed at his back legs. My son is helpless at the front end just trying to control his horse and not get bitten himself.

I'm pleading with them to grab the dog - so now we have 4 people circling a horse about to go ballistic. Then Bobo grabs Tank's tail and hangs on.

Oh man, I lost it totally - screamed at them to get that *&%^$# dog.

One of the boys informed us that we were not to ride our horses on the (yes, public paved) road!

Want to guess at the chill in neighbor relations right now?

I've a mind to report this to the township supervisors - and I'm seriously considering carrying a BB gun (or rocks in my fanny pack)!

As civilization encroaches, with lots of Jerseyites & NYC folks building in our area, they are bringing city ways and city attitudes to a once nice rural area. We have Neanderthals in the gamelands, speedsters on the rural roads and idiots like these kids whose actions caused the dog to treat this incident like good sport.

I'd rather deal with a bear in the woods any day.
