I think this one falls under "Do not write posts that make people think
you are smarter than you really are". 

 I doubt the writer knew the exact meaning either.  I thought the same
thing you thought...hmm, acerbic...I like that.  I wanted to be acerbic
too...maybe I still do sometimes. >eg<  What you want to bet that
somebody that knows words like that has very few miles.(how's that for an
acerbic comment?)>g<
