Re: rain rot and not drinking

I have had some occassional bouts with rainrot. I wet the animal to the skin
first and then apply Betadine (the straight stuff, not the shampoo) or
equivilent - repeat this every three days or so. With a serious case, I
would probably do it daily. The purpose of wetting the animal is so that the
Betadine actually penetrates through the coat to the skin instead of running
off. The skin will be wet in any case as Betadine is water based. As long as
the Betadine is wet it will continue to fight the organism, so wet with
Betadine is not bad.

as I understand it, rainrot usually requires a small nick in the skin to get
started and this can be caused by grooming equipment, particularly if the
coat is wet while grooming.
