Re: hackamores and bosels/vosels
I wrap my rawhide bosal in vetwrap at nose and jaw to soften it.  I have
even used the Latex bandage, with vetwrap over for the colour & to keep it
clean.  
The trouble with bosal's is drinking out of a bucket!  But they are great
for conditioning ridings.  Never used a vosal, I mostly use a mild
mechanical hackamore.
